When Crystal Dynamics announced the official release date for Rise of the Tomb Raider on November 10th, 2015, this created a bit of contention with an already crowded line up for Xbox gamers this fall. The current lineup of major AAA games has this September with Metal Gear Solid 5, Mad Max, and Forza Motorsport 6. Rainbow Six Siege, Assassins Creed Syndicate, and Halo 5 round out for October. And for November, we have Rise of The Tomb Raider and Star Wars Battlefront.

Official Xbox Magazine writes: With some trepidation, I approach Anniversary the second time around. Theres a double dose of nostalgia lying in wait here, first for the console-defining original Tomb Raider and second for Crystal Dynamics outstanding remake, which, through my rose-tinted bifocals (available at selected opticians), is the series finest hour. Not to mention Rise of the Tomb Raidercoming on the horizon. In the intervening years, Lara has changed some argue for the better; I argue for the worse, but then Im an old fart who holds no truck with all this newfangled exploring her vulnerability characterisation and combat-focused claptrap of the latest Raider. That said, gaming has shunted on apace since Anniversarys 2007 release, so can I expect to be disappointed on a second playthrough? Thankfully not.

Crystal Dynamics took the stage during Microsoft's E3 media briefing today to showcase a first look at the gameplay of Rise of the Tomb Raider.

In it we see Lara Croft brave the elements as she does a bit of treacherous ice climbing. As you'd expect, it looks abosolutely gorgeous and is incredibly intense. Poor Lara does take quite a beating, though.
